]]>Recent January 2026 sightings at RSPB Pagham Harbour include wintering specialists like Red Knot (200+), Ruff, Spotted Redshank, and Peregrine Falcon. Hundreds of Brent Geese and Wigeon are present, alongside sightings of European Stonechat, Common Buzzards, and Cattle Egrets. The North Wall and Sidlesham Ferry areas remain active for waders.

]]>The aim of the East Beach Pond Group is to get some baseline monitoring data which will be used to see what types of submerged aquatic plants might be able to grow in the pond to enhance biodiversity and improve oxygen levels. In addition, the group also want to see how water composition varies during the course of a year.

To help the East Beach Pond Group gain the most they can from the data, a training course in sonde data analysis took place in January 2026. This will enable the group to gain as much knowledge as possible from the data collected to date, and in future. The training was delivered by the Environment Agency’s National Water Quality Instrumentation Service(NWQIS) and Meteor Communications.
An article on the recent sonde work undertaken by the East Beach Pond Group is being published in the spring edition of CDC’s Initiatives magazine, which has the potential to reach 124,100 residents.
